Privacy at HFlash
This policy explains what information HFlash collects when you visit hflash.co.uk, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what rights you have over it. It is written to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, and it is written in plain English because a privacy policy nobody can read protects nobody.
Information we collect
When you read an article we record technical information that your browser sends automatically, including your IP address, the pages you viewed, the time of your visit, the approximate region you connected from and the type of device and browser you used. We use this to understand which journalism readers find useful, to detect abuse of the site, and to keep the site working properly. If you send us an email or submit a form we hold the contact details and message you provide so that we can reply. If you subscribe to a newsletter we hold your email address until you unsubscribe.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies. Essential cookies keep the site functioning and remember your consent choices. Analytics cookies help us count visitors and see which pages are read, in aggregate rather than individually. Advertising partners may set their own cookies if you consent to them. You can refuse non-essential cookies when you first arrive, change your mind at any time, and block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Legal basis for processing
We process technical and analytics information on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and improving a news website, and we process correspondence on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you. Newsletter subscriptions and non-essential cookies are processed on the basis of your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
Sharing and third parties
We do not sell personal information. We share limited data with the service providers who make the site work, including our hosting provider, our analytics provider, our email delivery provider and our advertising partners. Each is bound by contract to process data only on our instructions. We may disclose information where the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order.
International transfers
Some of our providers operate outside the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred abroad we rely on adequacy regulations or on standard contractual clauses to ensure the information receives an equivalent level of protection.
How long we keep information
Server and analytics records are retained for up to twenty six months and then deleted or aggregated so that individuals cannot be identified. Correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the matter and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you write again. Newsletter records are deleted when you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased where we have no continuing reason to keep it, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to restrict processing while a dispute is resolved, and to receive your data in a portable form. To exercise any of these rights, write to privacy@hflash.co.uk. We respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Information Commissioner Office.
Children
HFlash is a general news publication intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen, and we delete any such information that comes to our attention.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change and record the date of the most recent revision here. Substantial changes are announced on the site. Questions can be raised through our contact page. This policy should be read alongside our Terms of Use, which explain the rules for using this site.
